Late 18th century (Martine). Limekiln, trapezoid in plan
with 3 vents and rear tunnel. Roughly squared sandstone
rubble; sandstone dressings. Height 22 ft, 24 ft wide
front with vents 11 ft wide, back tunnel 40 ft long,
10 ft wide. Kiln 16 ft diameter, lined with dressed
stones; now collapsing. Vent arches 13 ft high, tapering
sharply to draw holes in coursed sandstone. 2 rows
socketed corbels above arches. Access ramp at rear.
Very imposing range; erected by George Rennie soon after
arriving to farm at Phantassie in 1785 (Martine).
