Description

Samuel Barham, 1875. East facing terrace of 6 estate
dwellings, 2 storeys, 12 bays. All rendered concrete.
Projecting wide outer gabled bays, with entrances for nos 1
and 6 in south and north return gables. Symmetrical centre 10
bays, paired entrance doors with (shared) centre windows and
flanking 3-light windows; 4 1st floor windows and 2 blind
windows; Hoodmoulds to outer 1st floor windows, which all
have wooden mullions and are of generous size with multi-pane
glazing. Continuous slated wooden canopy supported by curved
wooden brackets runs above ground floor windows across wide
and front elevations. Decorative bargeboards to outer bays; 3
corniced ridge stacks; slate roofs.
Long single storey row of rendered concrete outhouses to
rear of terrace.

Statement of Interest

Very unusual terrace of estate cottages. Particularly

generous accommodation in nos 1 and 6, each of which has 4

bedrooms. Was used as a resettlement accommodation when St

Kilda was evacuated.
