Description

Dated 1861. Single storey and attic, 3-bay cottage with
recessed front facade, the side gable walls and roof
projecting to form sheltered continuous front verandah.
Random rubble, harled gables, tooled rubble dressings. Centre
door with flanking windows. 3 rear windows light rear
internal store/stock accommodation with access from either
gable. 2 small attic windows with datestone between in west
gable; multi-pane glazing; tooled rubble end stacks with
blocked and moulded concrete copes; slate roof.
Single storey, single bay lean-to wing at west gable of
similar build to cottage with rear door.

Statement of Interest

One of the earliest modernised shepherd's cottages built by

Octavius Smith of Ardtornish Estate.

Unusual internal plan, exceptional for its time.
