Description

Early 19th century. Former sawmill. 2-storey; rectangular-plan.

Rubble. Piended roof.

E ELEVATION: wide flat-arched opening at ground floor. 4-pane window to left at 1st floor.

N ELEVATION: 3 window openings at 1st floor. Remains of full-height rubble lean-to adjoined to left of centre, and right.

W ELEVATION: door to left of centre; 4-pane window to right of centre.

S ELEVATION: water-wheel at centre. Window to left of wheel; window to right at 1st floor.

WATER-WHEEL: mid 19th century. Overshot wheel. Cast-iron; zinc buckets. 8-spoke. Geared drive from the rim.

Grey slates. Small rooflights at eaves, 3 to N pitch, 2 to E, and 1

to S.

No remaining internal machinery.

Statement of Interest

The Sawmill is marked on the OS Map of 1847-48. Water was brought to the wheel by a timber lade from the mill ponds to the west.
