Circa 1856, incorporating earlier building to rear; various later additions. 2-storey and attic, irregular-plan hotel. Earlier building: harled, stugged and snecked red rubble sandstone gable, slate roof; multi-pane sash and case windows with ashlar margins, piend-roofed dormers, ashlar-coped skews. Main building: stugged and snecked red rubble sandstone, ashlar dressings, platform slate roof; base course, cill course, eaves course incorporating string course with short vertical shafts to eaves; single and bipartite 12-pane sash and case windows, 4-pane to addition at W, gabled dormerheads breaking through eaves; corniced and linked octagonal stacks; cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative hoppers.
E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: main building at right, tripartite doorpiece at centre with thick ashlar margins and shallow canopy, windows to left and right, 3 windows to 1st floor, dormerhead to centre; 2-bay flat-roofed section to left with single storey lean-to, linking to gable of earlier building at far left, single storey pitched roof bay with 3 windows masks ground floor, 2 windows to 1st floor, window to attic.
S ELEVATION: earlier building to right, door to centre, window to left, greatly enlarged window to right, 3 windows to 1st floor, 2 dormers; 20th century additions advanced to left.
N ELEVATION: massive 2-storey semi-octagonal bay to centre of main building with bipartite windows and coped parapet, window to ground and 1st floor at left and right, 5 dormerheads; 2 windows at ground and 1st floor, and 2 dormerheads at slightly advanced later bays to right.
W ELEVATION: ground floor.
Largely masked by later additions, 5 windows to 1st floor, nepus gable with stacks, 3 dormerheads.
INTERIOR: not seen.
