Late 18th/early 19th century, surviving blocks of former
Calderbank Bleachfield. Close-spaced pair of 2-storey blocks
with basements in slope of ground, and long, low 3rd block to
W with timber walling, stone piers and gables possibly a
drying house originally.
Paired blocks are also both gabled, both (1990) now in
domestic use, rubble-built, ashlar dressings - 2-bay block
nearest N is rendered, original multi-paned glazing removed;
block nearest S has 3 bays, rear catslide roof. Modern
roofing materials.
Footings of other associated buildings survive nearby.
One of 5 bleachfields mentioned in the NEW STATISTICAL
ACCOUNT. Manufacture of linen in the Lochwinnoch area gave
way late in the 18th century to cotton spinning.
