Later 19th century. Scots Baronial. Main block:
2 storeys and attic. Rendered; dressed facings,
gabled slate roofs.
2 bay-windows: crow-step gablets; ball-finials. 2
piended dormers, between gablets, to W. Oriel window
to N.
Block to S; square projecting bay. Door approached by
short flight of steps with open stone balustrade.
Turrets. Ornamental chimneys. Addition at rear.
Built as a mansion Sir William MacKinnon 1st Baronet
(1823-93) who made his fortune in the Orient and was the
founder of the British East Africa Co. Block to S and
E may have been original mansion of Mac Allister and
has been demolished. Keil School was evacuated to here
from Dumbarton 1941-46.
