Description

Dated 1848. John T Rochead, Glasgow, Castellated 2 and 3 storeys. Stugged ashlar front and ends harled at rear. Crenellated parapet with gabled and piended roof behind. Octagonal chimneys. Central Tower with turret 2-storey stone porch in front: ogee arches; room above. Moulded doorway behind; panel above inscribed '1848'. Ogee arcade on SW side. Long 1 storey wing at N.E. and with Tower at end; Perpendicular window in centre flanked by turrets.

Statement of Interest

Replaced another ancient castle of Campbell of Auchinbreck.

Built for John Pender MP, it passed to Thomas Lloyd c.1880. Recently converted into Hotel. Interior redecorated.
