Description

Circa 1770; re-erected on present site circa 1970. single
storey octagonal plan former lodge, now a summerhouse.
Rendered, with ashlar margins, eaves course, cornice and
blocking course: Octagon-patterned glazing to sash windows
and to door: latter faces Portrack House - inscription panel
on blind window in opposite face. Corniced octagonal apex
stack; facetted slate roof.

Statement of Interest

Portrack house not included in listing. Inscribed "... lodge

is one of a pair built at Mollance near Castle Douglas in

1770. In 1970 condemned... one was moved to Glenkiln near

Shawhead by W.J.K. and the other here by J.K...."

Category B for quality of barn. Possibly by Walter Newall.
