Early 17th century tower house of unusual plan. Main rectangular block with gables to E and W, projecting off-centre wing to S and central projecting circular stair turret to N. 3 storeys. The house has been much restored in 19th century and again in 1983, much of original window dressings etc were lost in 19th century restoration or badly osbcured
by recent harling. Partially rendered partially harled over rubble walling, most windows rendered margins. To projecting S wing, diminutive elliptical window, presumably a re-used fragment of earlier origin.
To rear stair tower, part of the original roll-moulded door jambs survive incorporated in the restored doorway, blind panel above badly harled over. All modern windows, sash and case with small-pane glazing. Modern door to S re-entrant agnle. Simple pedimented dormers, modern reconstructions, 2 to S, 1 to N; inscribed DT 1983, LKT (Landmark Trust), 1983.
End skews with skewputts, modern slate roofs. End stacks with thackstanes, tall sizeable stack rises from wallhead to N.
CARRIAGE HOUSE: rectangular-plan gabled rubble carriage house with brick dressings adjoined to rubble boundary walls; brick surround to single segmental arch in principal elevation, flanked by 8-pane window. Small 4-pane window to rear. Slate roof and sandstone ridge.
A Landmark Trust property. Converted/restored 1983, TP/368/83.
