Mid 18th century. Single storey, 4-bay rectangular-plan traditional cottage. Harled; stone cills.
W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: central 2-leaf timber boarded door, flanked by 2-windows close to eaves to right (window to immediate right enlarged and recessed into former smaller opening), window to far left close to eaves. Later 20th century lean-to extension to S; top-hung modern window.
N ELEVATION: plain gable.
E ELEVATION: central window close to eaves; small window to left. Later lean-to extension to S; modern door.
S ELEVATION: not seen, 2002.
INTERIOR: not seen, 2002.
Predominantly 4-pane, timber sash and case windows; timber replacement doors. Pitched slate roof; raised ashlar coped skews; shouldered and coped gablehead stacks; clay cans.
A traditional vernacular cottage which was used as the village school from 1769 to 1827. Renovations to the cottage in 1999 revealed that the site was formerly part of St James's Bay.
