Description

Late 18th century steading. U-plan, formerly part of
courtyard arrangement, N range demolished and replaced by
modern shed. 2-storey with single storey and attic wing to
NW. Painted rubble with regular openings.
S range contains stables with 10 stout timber stalls to
ground centre, to W 3 segmental cart arches, to E threshing
barn (part of drive shaft only in place), and grain storage
above. Apart from the E end, the 1st floor always provided
living accommodation, access from external stairs in N wall.
Externally this arrangement is expressed by 3 cart arches to
W, and to centre and E a central door flanked by sash and
case windows with 12-pane glazing. To 1st floor, smaller
12-pane sashes, to E these flank loft door. Pair of tall
coped wallhead stacks with granite angles to centre, good
graded piended slate roof.
The W block is single storey and attic, with the loft door
removed, access through court. The E block has some blocked
openings (presumably relating to the now gone threshing
machine), and a widened door to N. All slate roofed.
