Description

Circa 1820 built for Rev'd David Lamont. 3-storey, 3-bay symmetrical house; modern roughcast walling, rusticated quoins, polished raised margins. Roman-Doric columns support pediment over tripartite doorpiece.

All windows tripartite, 4-pane to ground and 1st floors, small-pane to 2nd.

Moulded eaves cornice.

Rear elevation sash and case windows with small-pane glazing.

Tall piended slate roofs.

FLANKING THE HOUSE: symmetrical detached single-storey and attic rubble-built steadings. Rusticated quoins, polished margins. Central tall round-arched cart entrance with oculus above flanked by doors; openings now mostly blocked. Steading to W linked to main house by curved coped painted rubble wall.

Statement of Interest

The village of Kirkpatrick-Durham was largely founded by Rev David Lamont circa 1785. Unusual for proportion of farmhouse and use of tripartite windows to all floors.
