Wardrop & Reid 1879-81, tower 1884. Large late classic mansion house. Main block 110' x 140', 3-storey. Entrance (W) front 5-window, centre bay advanced with pediment, coupled doric column porch, Roman Ionic tripartite above. Lower 3-storey N wing, 2-storey section with pend to court and 3-storey isolation wing with tall clock tower. S front advanced ends with 2-storey bay windows and central bay window. Pedimented E elevation with single storey N wing. Stugged ashlar, quoined angles, low-pitched piended roofs, slated. Simple interior with some good plaster work in drawing room, elaborately carved wooden chimney pieces.
Built for Sir Thomas Erskine. The old house was burnt in July 1878. The conservative near-Georgian treatment is remarkable for its date.
