House and U-plan steading united to form hollow square.
HOUSE: 2 buildings, early 19th century and circa 1830.
W-facing 2-storey, 3-bay house with similar but smaller rear
wing projecting at rear to form L-plan. Rubble with roughly
tooled rubble dressings; modern pointing.
Centre door flanked right by modern entrance with French
windows; diminutive gable attic light. Rear wing also with
centre door; smaller windows, blocked in centre 1st floor.
End stacks to main house only; slate roofs.
STEADING: substantial mid-19th century U-plan range extends
from N gable of house to form hollow square; also rubble with
tooled rubble dressings; segmental-headed cart bays, stables
and byres; circular horsewalk at N serves as foundation for
round rubble (curing) kiln with conical roof (constructed
1986).
Pair cheese presses stand at E gable of house.
Home of Rev James Gordon, priest of Tombae responsible for
fund raising and building R C Church 1827-29. He also farmed
Tombae and advertised in CATHOLIC DIRECTORY for 'boarders'.
