Description

1564. 3-storey, L-plan tower house; tooled rubble and ashlar
dressings. Round-headed entrance in ground floor NE
re-entrant angle with remains of rectangular corbelled
bartizan above and shallow semi-circular stair tower
corbelled out in angle. 2-bay S elevation with pair 1st floor
windows (lighting former hall); 2 smaller windows in 2nd
floor; various slit vents. Corbelled bartizan at SE angle;
wallhead stack in centre S elevation and end stacks.
Roofless, though a few heavy local slates survive.
INTERIOR: gutted, but segmental-headed 1st floor fireplace
visible. Vaulted ground floor.

Scheduled Monument.

Shield with coat of arms above door initialled IG HG and

dated 1586. Tower house completed by John Gordon in 1564.

Passed to Earls of Huntly as hunting seat in 1586.
