Description

Dated 1885; Herbertson of Galashiels, builder. Tall single stage observation tower and folly with corbelled parapet and crowstepped caphouse. Narrow bands of squared rubble with ashlar quoins. Corniced roll-moulded doorpiece; chamfered reveals.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: door with dated lintel to centre at ground surmounted by heraldic panel with 'J S', 3 irregular small vertical openings above.

N, E and W ELEVATIONS: variety of irregular openings including dated monogrammed panel to E.

Some openings blocked. Coped stack at caphouse.

INTERIOR: corner spiral staircase.

Statement of Interest

Built for Major General Sprot on the site of a medieval motte.
