Description

Mid-19th century farmhouse, 2 storey and 3 bay with centre
door. Flanking single bay quadrants linking main house with
piended single storey 2 bay wings. Coursed red rubble;
droved and broached dressings; polished ashlar to portico.
Round-headed door under corniced and pilastered doorpiece
portico with fan motif in spandrels.
Some re-used stone in construction; small coat of arms
including MacKenzie stag incorporated in walling right of
front door, and to left close to quadrant wallhead the word
FEARE (upside-down) and the figure 16. Large segmental
headed ground floor windows to main block piended slate roof;
drystone wall to garden.

Statement of Interest

Doorpiece appears to be of early 19th century date and

re-used.

Large mid 19th century steading (altered and improved W L

Carruthers 1888) with re-used stone monkey's head over

louvred bull's eye west gable.
