Description

Early 19th century; later additions. 2-storey, 3-bay, roughly T-plan former manse with advanced 2-storey wide single bay later 19th century addition to right. Painted squared and coursed rubble to S (main elevation) rendered to sides and rear; droved straight quoins, raised margins; stone cills; base course, eaves course. pilastered doorpiece; corniced and lugged windows to later 19th addition. Early 19th century stables, converted to residential accommodation in late 20th century.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 4 bays, arranged 3-1. Central corniced and pilastered doorway, replacement 2-leaf door; corniced and canted 3-light bay window to left; window to right. 3 1st floor windows (that to far left lengthened). Advanced, 2-storey piended wide single bay addition to far right; corniced and lugged ground floor window; 1st floor window centred above.

E ELEVATION: 3 bays. Central corniced and lugged window; small window to far right. 2 1st floor windows to outer bays.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: advanced central 2-storey piended section; windows to right and left return; flanking modern pitched roof enclosed porch to right; later additions to left. Advanced 2-storey piended wide single bay addition to far right; window at ground floor.

W ELEVATION: plain gable to right; recessed, piended 2-storey single bay section to left with later pitched roof additions at ground floor.

INTERIOR: divided into 3 dwellings; original staircase intact, some original cornicing.

Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows to S and E (some replacement look-alike timber windows); some 12-pane sash and case windows to rear. Pitched and piended roofs; grey slates; coped ashlar stacks to early 19th century section; corniced and shouldered ashlar stack to later 19th century addition.

FORMER STABLES (4 MANSEFIELD COURT): single-storey, 6-bay, rectangular-plan former stable building with advanced piended pavilions to outer bays. Converted to private dwelling circa 1990. Rendered; straight quoins. 12-pane timber sash and case windows; timber doors; pitched and piended roofs; grey slates; coped stack to N. Modern conservatory to W.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: tall coped random rubble wall to Muirburn Road; droved monolithic stone gatepiers with rounded ends; remains of random rubble wall abutting house to W.

Statement of Interest

Re-surveyed 9-SEP-2003. Former Glassford Manse, associated with former Glassford Parish Kirk (a ruin) and churchyard established in the first half of the 17th century (see separate listing). Despite subdivision into 3 separate dwellings, this former manse retains much of its original character. The adjacent stables has been sensitively converted into private accommodation.
