Description

A modernised ruin; probably repaired about 1750 when the
round arched windows and panels were inserted - Rectangular
on plan, with round corner staircase in thickness of wall;
low vaulted basement; upper part has been in three stages
with joisted floors; the corbelling under the parapet has a
moulded course at top and bottom, and two rows of detached
corbels between - Stane Castle evidently dates from the
16th century and resembles several others in North Ayrshire.
