17th cent. 1 1/2 storeys with laigh floor. Rubble. Skew-gabled.
Slated roof. Shed dormers. Addition at w. end; 19th cent. Corbie-step-gabled. OFFICES TO N: 2 arms around yard.
1 1/2 storeys. Elliptical arch to pend.
As coaching inn it was first stage out of Edinburgh on
Kelso Road. Johnson and Boswell stayed here 23rd Nov.
1772 at end of their tour. Travel expanded with opening of
turn pike road to Lauder 1834. Additions built from stones
of Fala House (built C.1745). Closed c.1880.
