c.1500. Oblong keep with jamb 4 storeys. Coursed rubble.
Roofless. Corbelled parapet (mostly gone) with angle
rounds. Another storey (flush with parapet) and a
turret in re-entrant angle were added in 17th cent.
Interior (now inaccessible): Vaulted 1st storey.
(dungeon in jamb). Hall in 2nd storey of main block.
Probably built for George, 2nd Lord Seton. Queen Mary stayed here 2 May 1568 after escape from Loch Leven Castle. Passed to John Hope of Hopetoun c.1680. 1678.
De-scheduled 23 February 1996.
