Description

Circa 1816. 3-storey and attic, south facing hotel, with
slightly later wide single storey bowed extension rising
full height at west gable. Mainly rendered and lined as
ashlar, with ashlar dressings, rusticated quoins, band
courses over 1st floor and in bow only over ground floor.
All whitewashed.
Later off-centre doorway; 3 later bipartites in 2nd
storey; 3 early 20th century large piended dormers; 2
windows in each floor in west bowed gable (except in 1st
floor); mainly 2- and 4-pane glazing; corniced end,
ridge and wallhead stacks; bellcast slate roof, bowed and
piended at west.
Various later extensions to rear.

Statement of Interest

Established in 1816. Stands opposite the Telford bridge

completed in 1811, and on the main road north through

Helmsdale before the realignment of the A9 in the 1970's.
