Description

Thomas Telford, circa 1815. High segmental headed tunnel with
straight sides serving sluice flanked by semi-circular winged
abutment on south bank of canal. All squared rubble with
tooled ashlar dressings and arch ring. Squared rubble
walling flanks and bridges sluice gate within canal; 3
cast-iron winding gear covers; cast-iron hand-rail.

Statement of Interest

Arched abutment also carries path running along south side of

canal, the semi-circular head of the abutment raised as

parapet. Sited opposite Carn Phail old burial ground.
