Description

Earlier 19th century. Single storey, L-plan, bow-ended gate lodge with bow end facing gate. Sandstone ashlar to road, coursed rubble to rear; droved ashlar dressings. Eaves course. Raised window margins. Windows on bow facing up drive, and road; margined entrance to NE elevation of wing. Stone-mullioned bipartite window to road. Welsh slate roof.

GATEPIERS AND GATES: stop-chamfered, pyramidal-capped gatepiers. 2-leaf spear-headed cast-iron gates with quatrefoil-pattern band. Single foot gate next to lodge.

Statement of Interest

A picturesque, unextended gatehouse prominently situated by the B6360 at the entrance to Faldonside House estate. It does not appear on Ainslie's map of 1821. The lodge is in poor condition (2007).
