Description

Circa 1780 with later alterations. 2-storey, 3-bay L-plan former manse. Harled with raised margins, painted to windows.

N ELEVATION: entrance to right of later flat-roofed porch addition with cornice; window to front. Windows flanking at ground, 3 windows to 1st floor close under eaves.

Lower 2-storey wing extending S at rear; probably later. Irregular window pattern; very small light to 1st floor in E gable wall, blocked attic window above.

Sash and case windows with plate glass to N, some 12-pane glazing to sides and rear.

Grey slates to steeply pitched roof, straight skews, harled end stacks with ashlar margins and cornice.

CARRIAGE HOUSE AND STABLES: to NW, 19th century. Piend roofed, with rubble retaining walls.

Statement of Interest

A new parish church built in 1780, the manse, school and schoolhouse built about the same time. George Goldie, minister 1778-1805 compiled the parish record for the FIRST STATISTICAL ACCOUNT. Planning consent given for conversion of Carriage House to residential use, 28.3.90 and for rooflights and astragalled windows in main house 29.1.91.
