Description

Original nucleus late 16th/early 17th century, small
rectangular tower house with circular stair tower at NW
angle cut down to 2-storey, presumably shortly after
1784; pinned rubble, red sandstone dressings, windows
have red sandstone dressings grooved for glass with broad
chamfers; main entrance in re-entrant angle of stair
tower roll-moulded, partly robbed of dressings: 1st floor
room has good moulded chimney piece at S. gable. Two-storey
SW wing addition forming L-plan 17th century, much ruined
but with remains of moulded ingleneuk (?-latterly
chimneyless with lean-to roof) with aumbry; ruined
outbuildings (formerly low single-storey pantiled) running
N. from N. gable, not much more than foundations, 2 more
ruined detached outbuildings to NW and SW, the latter
linked to the W. gable of the house by a ruined wall;
further single storey outbuilding (subsequently raised to
provide loft) on higher ground on E. wall N gable and short
return of W. wall survive.
