Early 19th century in present form, probably
incorporating earlier work. Castellated details
introduced in the early 19th century. Harled with
ashlar dressings. Symmetrical entrance front with
additional wing to left, single storey on raised
basement, with attic. Central deeply projecting
pedimented bay with windows on return elevation and
central door under castellated cornice at head of perron
stair, the retaining walls boldly stepped. 2 narrow
windows flank door; bracketed cornice and Venetian
window in pediment which is capped with a block and ball
finial. 2 narrow recessed bays with basement windows and
castellated parapets terminating in square, corbelled
and castellated turrets. 2 lower outer bays with some
altered glazing wing to left with single storey
additional bay with square, corbelled angle turret
supporting tall lantern Garden front: main block, 2
wide bays with 2 full storeys over raised basement.
Prominent canted bay windows rising from the basement
through the main floor. 2 single storey over basement
and attic, bays flanking with 3 additional bays to
right.
Modern projecting porch at basement level to left. All
walls with castellated parapets the main block with
angle turrets as on the front elevation. Central
block with piended platform roof, remaining roofs either
piended or gabled, all slated.
Large, semi-parabolic roofed conservatory against west
wall. Extensive walled garden.
Lodge and gatepiers: Single storey lodge, part with
attic in toy-castle manner. Asymmetrical, roughly
squared rubble with polished ashlar dressings.
Projecting bay with curved angles towards gateway with
V-plan ground floor, castellated bay and round-headed
pilastered window above with raised stepped and
segmental hood-mould above, set in crowstepped gable.
Door set in small, castellated, dr<> in re-entrant
angle to right; additional right bay. Ground floor
windows round-arched with barley-sugar colonnettes.
Crowstepped gables, roof with bands of fish-scale
slating. Drum gate piers in 3 stages, with castellated
set offs and parapets. Round-headed doors in bottom
stage.
