Description

1738-9 (Dated A.M./W.1739 M). Roofless. Long rubble-
built rectangle approx. 77' x 25', birdcage bellcote W.
gable, symmetrical S. front with 3 doorways with
segment-headed fanlights and 2 pairs large square-headed
windows between. 2 small square windows over centre
(minister's) door. Straight skews stepped at half their
height, skewputts, porch and octagonal session house
added later, apparently before 1779, at centre S.
Originally had E. and W. galleries; altered Wm. Stirling
1820-1, narrow N. gallery inserted, N. gallery porch and
stair and N. fenestration altered. Round-arched channel-
jointed doorpiece inserted in E. wall later. Abandoned
1859.

Statement of Interest

The present parish church (Greek cross plan, small tower

with pyramid spire, plain gothic) is by David MacGibbon

1858 but is not of special note.
