Roadbridge, 3 segmental arches over River Nith. Classical.
Red sandstone ashlar; bull-faced piers with pointed cutwaters
either side, paired pilasters above flank arches;
entablatures (linked by coped parapet) house alcoved
pedestrian refuges; curved tops of latter suggest domes over entablatures. Curved approaches. Horizontal roadway.
Now by-passed following realignment of main road. Thomas
Carlyle's father was employed as a "hewer" during
construction. Also in Keir Parish.
