Earlier/mid 19th century. Narrow lenticular footbridge
supported high above River Nith on pair of slender cast-iron
columns on either bank; columns have iron stays; (renewed)
timber walkway on braces linking narrow plate girders;
walkway approach turns towards south on west bank, gate at
east approach. Iron handrails, with cross-braces, splayed
slightly from mountings.
Undated drawing in Drumlanrig collection showing lenticular
bridge on masonry abutments possibly a preliminary scheme
for this bridge (copy in NMRS)
