Description

2 principal builds; 2-storey, 3-bay house, essentially early/earlier 19th century in appearance, more than doubled in size by taller asymmetrical addition to south by James Barbour of 3-bay house: (incorporates earlier fabric raised 3/4 courses at front (west) and above ground floor to rear): built of squared rubble with ashlar margins, all painted; west elevation: corniced central porch with 3/4 engaged Doric columns; ground floor window to right doubled in size by

insertion of identical window; sash windows throughout, with 12-pane glazing pattern-ppiended roof with parallel ridges, axial stacks over each with corniced octagonal flues, graded slate roof. Tall L-plan outbuilding adjoins north wall, forming additional low office range, rear courtyard; flat-headed former cartshed to latter with carved stone

incorporated above;

Addition: also 2 storeys; built of coursed squared red rubble with polished dressing; 2-bay west elevation has large segmental-headed mullioned and transomed stair window left (beside earlier house), 2-storey large canted window in advanced right bay breaks through eaves and has faetted roof; elaborate entrance bay to south, round-headed entrance below corbelled oriel with flanking pilaster strips and gabled

head; tall wall head stack alongside rises from projecting chimney breast. Corniced stacks.

Interior: some marble chmney pieces and cornice plasterwork. All roofs slated, with bracketted eaves.
