Designed under superintendence of Raymond Unwin, but possibly
by Geoffrey Lucas. Dated 1917. Church in Arts and Crafts
tradition, with large squat pyramidal-roofed 3-stage square
tower. Snecked, red bullfaced ashlar; mostly round-headed
openings except aisles, some with deeply splayed reveals;
some slit openings; aisle windows cusped-headed lights in
rectangular panels. Tower at E end of S aisle with openings
to each level and each face (louvred at top); set-off below
eaves at angles; with swept-roofed and louvred dormers; main
roof swept over aisles between tower and gabled porch at W
end (latter reaches to main eaves level):
2 recessed doors below 3-light window in W gable; gabled N
transept; circular window on E gable high above datestone,
both set within tall, narrow, round-arched panel. Slate
roofs.
Interior: aisle arcades semi-circular (brick) arches on
paired circular (red ashlar) columns, latter with flat
cushion capitals; barrel-vaulted roof with some ornamental
plasterwork. Gallery at W over baptistry.
