Late 18th century. 2-storey with basement and attic; 3-bay; rectangular-plan house. Harled; ashlar surrounds to windows, quoins, eaves course, corniced eaves and band course at basement.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: steps lead up to central door; panelled timber door; 2-pane fanlight; pilastered and pedimented doorpiece. 2 basement windows; 2 ground floor windows flank door; 3 1st floor windows centred above.
W ELEVATION: central ground floor window; 1st floor window to left of centre.
N ELEVATION: piended porch to left of centre; window in N elevation; modern timber door in right return. 2 ground floor windows flank porch; 1st floor windows centred above; basement windows centred below. Central stair window; pedimented 1st floor/attic window above.
E ELEVATION: small, central ground and 1st floor windows. Central basement door.
12-pane timber sash and case windows with horns. 2 piended, 4-pane dormer attic windows, wholly in roof to front; central small rooflight. Pitched slate roof; raised flat-head ashlar skews. Coped gable end stacks; circular cans.
INTERIOR: Inner porch; panelled and glazed inner door; flanking glazed panels with pilasters; elliptical fanlight above doorpiece; decorative glass. Arched opening into hallway; corniced pilasters; decorative plaster. Panelled doors; plain cornicing and skirting remains. Open winding stair to right as facing; panelled door to left leads to winding stair to basement.
GATEPIERS: pair of gatepiers to S of house. Rusticated ashlar piers; corniced; pyramidal coping stones; decorative metal gates; flanking decorative gates link gatepiers to low stone quadrant wall surmounted by decorative railings. Single gatepier on W driveway; vermiculated rustication to pier; pyramidal ashlar coping stone.
Recent gatepiers and wall to NW are not part of Statutory List. The farm to W of South Fod House is also not part of the Statutory List; however it is worth noting that a stone inscribed 'IS EH 1693' is set into the W elevation of the E range. South Fod is depicted on Ainslie's 1775 Map as 'Southfoad'. The house may incorporate earlier material.
