Description

Dated 1832 over door. 2-storey and attic, symmetrical
rectangular house with 19th and 20th-century additions to
right. Coursed granite, polished red sandstone flat angle and
window margins. 1832 house: 3-bay with central pilastered
doorpiece, 1920's vestibule door with leaded diamond-pane
glazing and panelling, panelled door. Single storey canted
bay windows flank door, 1st floor windows single light, sash
and case with 12-pane glazing. Attic windows with unusual
curved jambs, 2-pane sash windows. Band course over ground
and 1st. Moulded cornice and blocking course. Piended slate
roofs, corniced end stacks.
Rear elevation: whinstone rubble, upper (attic) courses
appear to be a later addition.
Interior: some good panelled doors and chimneypieces survive,
dining room with buffet recess, drawing room with Gothic
chimneypiece. Curved stair to rear, cast-iron balusters,
timber handrail.

Statement of Interest

The 20th century house is not included in the listing. To

garden, ruinous pinned boulder rubble building of uncertain

date; walls approximately 3ft thick, openings mostly altered

or decayed.
