Blyth and Blyth, engineers. Dated 1939. Roadbridge, single
segmental arch carrying dual carriageway over River Annan.
Widened sympathetically to W circa 1980 retaining profile.
Reinforced concrete with bull-faced red ashlar cladding,
mostly snecked, parapets channelled and with massive drum
terminals.
Inscribed stones from previous (1818) bridge by Thomas
Telford set near S end of each parapet.
Also in Johnstone Parish. An early example of this type and
scale of bridge; carriageways each originally 20 feet in
width.
One stone inscribed "...Built By/JOHN MACDONALD/from a Plan
By/THOMAS TELFORD/...1818".
