Late 18th/early 19 century. 4-storey, 5-bay store built
against side of slope and expressed as 3 storeys to
Seafield Street (SE elevation). Rubble, tooled rubble
dressings. 3 wide doorways in ground floor, the widest in
centre, with alternate windows (4) opening to Low Shore.
1st, 2nd and 3rd fenestration as 3 closely grouped centre
bays and outer windows close to angles. 2-bay
return gables.
Seafield Street elevation with centre ground floor entrance
(as 1st floor to Low Shore) oversailed by forestair
serving centre 1st floor entrance. Blocked 1st floor doorway
(as window) in outer left bay; 5 loft windows grouped
as Low Shore elevation.
Some louvring survives in windows. Piended slate roof. INTERIOR:
said to have 2 staircases. Empty and in poor condition.
Imposing girnal. The entire parish of Boyndie belonged to
the Earls of Seafield; the storehouse probably used for
storage of goods, particularly grain, for export and
realisation into cash; also for goods imported into
Banffshire by sea, the normal method of transport until
early-mid 19th century.
No 38 Seafield Street, the cottage abutting S NE gable is
not included in listing.
