INTERIOR: admission not possible at time of visit (December 2005)
A tiny carefully proportioned and detailed classical lodge with an impressive portico. The classical detailing of the portico is a display of grandeur to impress the visitor on their approach to the main house. This lodge was linked to the first Mar Lodge, located across the Dee, which was reached by a river crossing at this point. Thus the Lodge was the first building the visitor would see, explaining its uniquely grand appearance. Formerly a later addition abutted to the rear but this has been removed and the rear wall rebuilt and reharled, thus the building retains its original footprint.
