1885. Blaikie Brothers engineers, Aberdeen. Slender iron foot suspension bridge with light wooden deck supported by wire rope cables suspended from lattice'girder pylons. Wire mesh parapets.
This is a slender and lightweight bridge, built at the expense of Queen Victoria. Before this bridge, there had been a rope and cable bridge across the river, which had been the scene of a tragic accident in 1824, when the rope broke and a young married couple drowned. The bridge is currently (2005) unsafe to use and in a poor state of repair.
