Large 4-storey and attic Z-plan main tower house with wings
enclosing N. courtyard. Probably originally designd c. 1576
by Thomas Leiper, W (Michael) tower being built first, with
part of centre block shortly there after: extended to present
Z-plan c.1592, hall paved by James Leiper 1614, elaborate
upper parts with coat of arms completed by I (John)
Bol 1617-18 (inscription and date). Wings or Laich Biggings
1621-36 (dated ) probably James Leiper. Centre block 54'
x 32'10" square tower 31' round tower 28' dia. 77' high.
Hall vaulted with "laird's lug". Some late 18th century
interior work, probably dating from 1795 when large domed
staircase and arcades were inserted in court (recently
removed) and fine S. doorway with cavetto splay. N. gate and
flanking buildings c.1820, bellcote features older re-used.
