David Bryce 1858-9, incorporating former central block of
c.1780 and wings of 1812-14 partly remodelled on N. side.
Scottish baronial, coursed rubble. Main block 3-storey with
dormer heads at 2nd, 2-storey W. extension; circular angle
entrance tower of Castle Fraser inspiration with balustraded
top. Low 2-storey court of offices with dormer heads set
back at N.E.
The original house consisted of a central block (68 x 34) with
N. centre bow with quadrant colonnades to kitchen (relict of
earlier house) at S.E. and stables at S.W. In 1812-4 a big
wing 34' long was added on the W. and a low one 102' long on
the E, both behind the colonnades, and a porch at centre s. In
1858 the E. wing was shortened to 66' and made the S. side of
the new kitchen court (letter from Earl of Dundee 14.4.69)
