H.J. Scrymgeour Wedderburn (the Earl of Dundee) for himself,
1948. Formal lay out of traditional single-storey cottages,
harled with margins, arched doorpieces with fanlights,
pantiled. N. range 3 cottages with piend roof; E. range 3
cottages, piend roof, centre tetrastyle R-doric portice with
pediment formerly at Birkhill; S. cottage 4-window and centre
door. Rubble linking wall, front wall and steps, late Georgian
cast-iron urns at terminal piers.
The columns late from 1812-14 and belonged to a porch added
at that date. In 1858 the columns were dumped and the bases
used in building gatepiers. The capitals were too badly
damaged to be used again and casts were made. The pediment
was improvised from the dressed masonry of disused buildings
in the garden at Birkhill. (Letter from the Earl of Dundee
14.4.69).
