Description

Simple 19th century, single storey, 3-bay, rubble-built,
gabled cottage with low 2-bay wing to east: altered circa
1903 by Sir Robert Lorimer for his blacksmith. Central 2-leaf
door flanked by 2-storey square projecting bay windows, slate
hung over ground floor with wide eaves and bell-cast roofs,
bays linked by swept-roofed porch; skews, end and slate roof.
Low wing has door and window, single tall stack and pantile
roof.
3 decorative wrought-iron gates, 2 at least by James Bennet,
blacksmith, Arncroach; 3rd, with curvilinear design and name
"Lundie", possibly designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and set
into rubble-built garden wall. One gate, dated 1889 with
letters "J B" (for James Bennet): gate, with tall slender
gatepiers and overthrow, leading to vegetable garden,
designed by Rev T P Johnstone, minister, Carnbee, and made by
James Bennet, 1870: brought to Lundie Cottage 1905.
