BURIAL GROUND: roughly square rubble walled burial ground
enclosing remains of 1618 former parish chruch. 17th, 18th,
19th and subsequent tombstones.
RUINS: rubble W gable survives of former church, probably of
T-plan form, with ball-finialled apex bellcote (no bell).
Portions of E wall substantially remodelled (possibly by
William Robertston of Elgin) in earlier 19th century as
burial enclosure for families of Arndilly and Auchlunkart who
are commemorated by various mural plaques.
Church sites in Boharm Parish have been moved over the
centuries. The medieval chapel and burial ground were sited
50 yards N of Cauldwell Castle (Scheduled Monument), 2 miles
to SW of present burial ground. In 1618 the parish church was
built on present site, to be superseded in 1793 when another
parish church was constructed nearer the new centre of the
parish after its union with a portion of Dundurcas parish.
The 1793 church has in turn been superseded by that at
Mulben, the former Free Church.
Mural plaques in burial enclosure to MacDowall Grants of
Arndilly and Stewart (or Steuart) and Stewart-Gordons of
Auchlunkart.
