Description

Possibly Alexander Reid, 1897. Asymmetrical single storey
castellated gate lodge with 2-stage tower, on island site
bounded by road and 2 arms of entrance drive. Rubble, tooled
ashlar dressings. Entrance in N elevation (overlooking
one arm of driveway); at NE angle 2 stage octagonal tower with
corbelled and crenellated wallhead. 2-bay W front with
projecting canted window; modern single storey, single bay
addition at SW. 2- and 4-pane glazing; crenellated and
corbelled wallheads with cable moulding; piended slate roof.
Enclosed by low coped rubble walls and cast-iron spearhead
railings.
Paired gatepiers with flanking pedestrian piers survive
at one arm of drive; ashlar with substantial pyramidal
caps. No gates.

Statement of Interest

Lodge not indicated on 1st ed. OS, circa 1870. Alexander

Reid, Elgin, died in March 1897: this lodge may have been

designed before his death.
