Dated 1723, with later additions. 2-storey cottage with 3 windows at the 1st floor, set close to eaves. 4 windows to ground floor with piended, slate-roofed porch to centre. Harled rubble. Lintel to 1st floor window inscribed 'G.B.1723.R.S'. Later conservatory (circa 2002) to rear.
4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows. Graded grey slate. Coped end stacks.
Old Harehope was built, according to the inscribed lintel, in 1723 by George Brown, an Edinburgh Merchant, and his wife Rachel Selkirk. The house was raised a storey in the early 19th century, when it became Harehope Farmhouse. The inscribed lintel has been re-set above the central 1st floor window. The building is called "Old Harehope Cottage" in the Borders volume of The Buildings of Scotland. It is located 100 metres to the south of the later farmhouse, built in the 20th century, also called Harehope.
Listed building record and statutory address updated, 2013. Previously listed as: "Harehope".
