Description

1920. 1914-18 Broughton War Memorial obelisk of grey whin stone. Moulded plaque inscribed 'In reverent and loving memory of those from this parish who laid down their lives in the Great War for liberty and righteousness'.

Statement of Interest

Built of good quality local whin stone from Gameshope quarry. The memorial was originally located above a drystane dyke at the junction of the main road and the road to Kilbucho, at the S end of Broughton Village. Unveiled by novelist and historian John Buchan in 1920.
