Description

Dated 1774. 2-arched rubble bridge with small, third, flood
arch spanning north shore. Tooled ashlar arch rings. Flood
arch repaired with iron stays and with modern corrugated
lining; stumpy triangular cutwaters. Tooled ashlar parapet
with splayed approaches and some modern repairs. Plaque and
re-used panel in centre spandrel west side.

Statement of Interest

North side of bridge in Inverness District. Plaque inscribed

"This bridge was built by David Davidson Esq. of Cantray in

the year 1774". This is inserted above re-used crested panel

with initials DD and date 1641, said to be from earlier

bridge. "He (David Davidson of Cantray) has built at his own

expense, an excellent bridge on the river, a little below his

house, which is a public benefit". (OSA)
