Description

Later 17th century in origin with later 18th century
remodelling. 2 storey house with 3 asymmetrical bays and a
projection at the NW which conceals part of a 17th century
stair. Rubble-built and harled. Near-central door with reused
lintel dated 1680 with the initials AM.MF. Straight skews,
end stacks, slate roof.

Statement of Interest

The initials are those of Alexander Munro, Minister of

Edderton and his wife Margaret Forrester. Alexander was the

son of Hector Munro (of the Foulis family) who acquired the

Daan estate. It appears that was a house on the site in 1592.

A carved overmantel dated 1680 was removed from the house and

taken to Balnagowan by Lady Ross in the 1940s.
