Mid 19th century. Single storey asymmetrical gabled gate
lodge. Squared rubble with droved ashlar dressings;
chamfered arrises to main openings.
S ELEVATION: advanced gabled bay to left, with canted
windows. Doorway in re-entrant angle with window
flanking to right. Eaves swept to form loggia linked to
gabled porch at right. Chamfered arrises to porch
columns and rounded angles. Coped decorative Jacobean stone
balustrade across loggia at centre.
E ELEVATION: gabled bay with window. Recessed rear
extensions to right.
W ELEVATION: raised gabled bay at centre with modern
extensions to outer left.
Modern casement windows inserted, but some small pane
sash and case lights remaining. Decorative timber
brackets to porch and curvaceous barge boarding to S, E
and W gables, eaves brackets. Early gutter heads retained.
3 circular stacks grouped at centre. Large slates to
earlier roofs.
Lodge design in sympathy with the beautification of
Dirleton Village contrasting with the plainer West Lodge
(listed separately). It was possibly designed by
David Bryce as the form of the porch is similar to his
work at Bower House, Spott Parish, for example.
